Oslo's Vison Zero Success

The government of Norway made a strong commitment to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities on their roadways and has worked towards this vision for nearly two decades.

In 2015, Oslo, Norway, made a commitment to reduce car traffic and prioritize the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and the environment.

What did Oslo do?
•Set a goal to reduce car traffic 33% by 2030.
•Assumed the authority to designate bus lanes, bike lanes, one-way traffic, and close streets to traffic.
•Implemented a bicycle strategy, aiming to increase bicycle mode share to 25% by 2025.

Vision Zero was adopted in Norway in 2002. Today the country is one of the safest for road users in the world.
